EXPRESSIVE FIGURES: With Audrey Smith

TWO FULL DAY SESSIONS
FRIDAY  & SATURDAY Workshop, November 13 – 14 / 10 am – 4 pm

Focus: Free your inner artist to explore figure drawing and painting!  Demonstrations and life model practice.

Medium: Acrylic & Charcoal

– Beginner (with some experience)
– Intermediate

– Nominal fee per participant to cover model fee

Course Description:
This is an exciting two-day workshop focusing on the fundamentals of figure drawing;  anatomical proportions and capturing gesture. Learn a few rules, break many more! You’ll be doing drawing exercises designed to loosen up those creative juices!  Audrey will be presenting contemporary examples of creative figurative drawing and painting. We will be working with a live, clothed model for our paintings.  

Learning Outcomes:

– Anatomical proportions, capturing gesture, creating form

-Drawing exercises designed to encourage the use of bold mark making such as continuous line drawing, negative space drawing

-With the model in place, we’ll begin to work on our (2) panels

About the Artist/Instructor:

Audrey Smith is an award winning Canadian contemporary figurative artist. Born in Quebec, her studio practice is now in Caledon, Ontario.  Audrey’s paintings are recognized for her chaotic line work and energetic, visceral brushstrokes.  Paradoxically, the atmosphere of her work is pensive, quiet, reflective and sensitive.

In addition to solo exhibitions, Audrey has participated in numerous juried Canadian and International group shows. She was an award finalist in the Carrousel Du Louvre International Art Exhibition in Paris, France and a finalist in the International “Figureworks” exhibition held in Ottawa, Ontario. In December 2024, Audrey won the Society of Canadian Artists “Artistic Excellence Award.”
